Hell Over the Hinterland, Frame 3

After-Action Report
3/11/2017
by Brooke, GL, 121 Wing

This was a scenario that ran in the multiplayer on-line air-combat simulation Aces High.

Frame 3 was similar for us to Frames 1 and 2.  The overall strategy for 121 Wing was to load our Typhoons with rockets (we practiced many hours with rocket attacks prior to the scenario), take off, get to altitude, and then see which enemy target area seemed to be cleared of enemies by our fighters.  We would go for that field, usually asking for and getting at least one friendly fighter over the target in advance of us to give us a report on whether or not it was clear.  This has worked great for us so far.  Manned ack has been a big threat, but we try to be evasive coming into target and going out from target, and we try to arrange our attacks to minimize exposure.

I'm launching rockets on my first attack run of Frame 3.

My first pair of rockets is hitting home, and I've launched my second salvo at my target barracks.

I'm veering off from the airfield after my attack run.  Harambe has launched his rockets and is pulling out.  killyjim is launching his rockets.  1ijac's rockets are converging on his target.

My second attack run, this time on a fuel tank.

Here, I get blasted out of the sky by a AAA round to the face as I'm about to launch rockets on the barracks in my sights.

I'm pouring cannon rounds into an ammo bunker shortly before the end of the day's battle.  I'm the sole surviving Typhoon at this point squeezing in one last run.  Popsman and I had taken off from a120, but right after liftoff, the town then the field started to flash, and we got jumped by a FW 190D-9.  Popsman went down, and I was able to get away to do this last run.

Two FW 190D-9's jumped me as I was exiting the airfield after my attack.  I was able to evade them for a bit, then Bozon and Rapier came screaming in, and the 190's disengaged from me.  Thanks, Bozon and Rapier!

Conclusion

I destroyed 11 bunkers and got shot down twice by manned ack.  121 Wing overall destroyed 37 bunkers (11 barracks, 21 fuel and ammo, 5 radar).

Great work, 121 Wing!

And another excellent plan and execution by the 8th and 9th AF and 2nd TAF.  Way to go JunkyII (our CO), our GL's, and our pilots.  You guys have been completely clearing the way for us every time.
