After-Action Report
6/3/2017
by Brooke, GL, I/JG 3
This was a scenario that ran in the multiplayer on-line air-combat simulation Aces High.
I/JG 3 consisted of me (Brooke), Zacherof, Zack1234, Pipz, Oboe, and Orelle.
American bombers inbound! JG 3 took off and got into position for an intercept, coordinated by our beloved and expert Commander Serenity.
Ordered in, we spot the bombers. t=0:31
I blast a lone bomber, pouring in the cannon rounds until it explodes in a cloud
of debris. "Horrido!" think I, but it is only an assist to our one-man
wrecking crew, the Mighty Pipz. t=0:36
I veer off after the attack, working to reposition. Zacherof is out there
as well. t=0:36
A dastardly P-38J is able to get on me, and I have to dive away. I get
away then climb back up to come back to the bomber stream. t=037
Various other attacks going on as I worked to get back into position for another
run. Dantoo, front, DRAGUN, and Molsman are out there.
As some enemy escorts are showing up, I work on flushing them away from the
bombers. I am able to flush out a P-51, a P-38, and a P-47. t= 0:42
A P-47D-11 gets on me as I was attacking a P-38 and puts some hits on me as I
evade. Streaming oil, and missing a horizontal stabilizer, I dive out.
t=0:43
Deadstick landing at closest base, along with KrzyIvan in his FW 190.
t=0:45
We position for the Americans' second bombing attack of the day.
We run through the P-51 group on our way to the bombers. They don't
immediately turn around to follow us, but I figure they'll be along shortly.
Spotting the bombers. t=1:40
We go over them and look for escort to attack. The P-51's come back, and we run through them again.
The P-51's catch us after a while from behind, and we have to evade.
t=1:41
After evading the P-51's, we ran up the tail of the bomber formation again at alt, harassing escort.
I put some hits into a P-38J escorting the bombers. He doesn't go down
from my hits here, and I curse my aim. t=1:48
I tangled with more escort, flushing out a few, but eventually, one of the P-51's gets on me and flushes me out. I tried to dive out, then parallel the bombers or go in front of them, climb, and get back in, but the escort was very good. Each time I started to get near the bomber altitude, an escort would come by and flush me away. I tried chasing the bombers after their drop and turn back west, but I wasn't close enough to catch them at that point. I went after locations of reported fighting with enemy fighters. I wasn't able to find anyting for a long time, though, and what Luftwaffe fighters were around all spread out trying to find enemies.
Three P-51B's found me, and I ended up diving out. After a brief chase,
they gave up on me and headed back west. t=2:20
Another fight was reported, and I went for that. I found it! Three or four P-47's attacking one of our fighters on the deck. I came racing in and . . .
Completely blew my shot on a P-47 that was given to me on a platter.
!@#%!!!!!!! t=2:33
Once I blew my shot, now I was in trouble, as a couple of P-47's were on me with good position. I yelled for help like a sissy as I evaded. I blew my setup so badly that I turned a position of advantage into a disadvantage and ended up having to run for it.
After that embarassment, I looked around for other fights, but ran low on fuel and had to land then reup. I wasn't able to get to any action before the end.
I got a kill on a P-38 and an assist on a P-47 and a B-17. I wasn't shot down, but my gunnery -- ye, gods, it was horrendous.
I/JG 3 overall did well, especially thanks to Pips. 13 kills and 4 deaths.
It was great flying with you guys! <S>!
