Fjord Fury

Version 8

Sections

Date and Time

Setting

Through most of the war, hardened German targets had proven nearly impervious to conventional attacks.  But starting after mid 1944, a new British weapon appeared:  the Tallboy -- a 12,000 lb, 21 ft long “earthquake bomb”.  It was designed to drop from high altitude, attain a high terminal velocity, penetrate deep into earth, rock, or concrete, then detonate to create a gigantic crater, demolishing the target’s structure.

Tallboy missions, using specially modified Lancasters, were flown against u-boat pens, e-boat pens, V-1 bunkers, viaducts, dams, tunnels, and Germany’s last great ships at anchor, at locations ranging from the coast of France, to inside Germany, to the fjords of Norway.

Now it’s 1945 and time for a collection of late-war action and Lancaster Tallboy missions to the fjords, against u-boat pens, dockyards, and two of the last great German warships.

Victory Conditions

If the allied side fails to do this in the frame, it will get no points at all for that frame:

Frame Points:

Each frame is scored separately, and the winner of the frame is the side with the most points.

Victory Points (scored at end of scenario):

The final winner is the side that has the most victory points.

Allowed Targets

Allowed targets are the fighter hangars, bomber hangars, vehicle hangars, ammo bunkers, fuel bunkers, and barracks at:  A70, A69, V68, and V64.

Allowed targets are also the Tirpitz and Lutzow in sector 11.17.3 in the fjords.  If Tirpitz or Lutzow is sunk, it stays down for the rest of the scenario.

Timing Table

Show-Up Time is noon Pacific.

Luftwaffe takeoff is approximately at 12:23 pm Pacific.

RAF air launch is approximately at 12:35 pm Pacific.

End of hostilities is approximately at 3:45 pm Pacific.  RAF bombers must be in the restricted red zone (in or west of column 6) at this time.

Moving Around Pilots

The given slots for Tempests, Lancasters, Ta 152’s, and the variable LW group may not be exceeded.

CO's may split fighter groups up into separate flights and send them on separate missions as they see fit.

If walkons overfill the event, the allied CO may put extra pilots in P-51’s or Spit 14’s, and the axis CO may put extra pilots in Bf 109K-4’s or FW 190D-9’s.

CO's may move registered pilots to different aircraft if the registered pilots are willing.  But if a registered pilot wants to keep the plane he is registered for, he must be allowed to stay in that plane.

Items of Note

“Settings” section shows items set differently from defaults.

Note that fuel conservation might be needed by some of the allied planes in this scenario.  We suggest that you figure out what works best for your aircraft for range.

Settings

Disabled weapons

Fighters will not have rockets or bombs.

Lancasters will have only 14x 1000 lb bombs.

Change Log

This section mentions the changes in each version, so that when changes are made to this document, people don't need to read the whole document to find out where the changes are. Note on terminology: In this section, "Clarified" has a very precise meaning. If a rule is listed as being "Clarified", it means that the rule and its intent is not being changed but that the explanation herein is being improved to make the rule and its intent more clear. Rules are sometimes clarified during a scenario based on player questions or misunderstandings about wording.

-- Removed reference to “Luftwaffe forward fields”, which was holdover from Big Week not usable here.

-- Allow use of 90N air spawn.
