After-Action Report

This was a scenario that ran in the multiplayer on-line air-combat simulation Aces High.
I was in II/JG26 "Schlageter".
A map of the battle area for us. Our home base was a71 in sector 16.9.
II/JG26 rolling in our beautiful FW 190A-5's. From front to back: IrishOne (our GL), me (Brooke), Heater, DrBone, Ditto, Redtail7, cactus, and Wedge.
We took off, joined up with some other groups, and then proceeded toward the English coast. Our mission was to bomb and strafe the city near port p105. There was no opposition along the way, so in we went.
Bomb away on the city near p105, with the port in the background.
Strafing a building at p105 city. From left to right: Ditto, me, Wedge, cactus, and DrBone.
We strafed until we were down to about 200 cannon rounds (keeping some in case we got jumped), and then headed back to refuel and rearm.
On our way out, we see the bombers on their way in to hit the city. Go, bombers! From left to right: thomace, dtis30, EVZ, Popsman (howdy, Pops!), JVnotch, PEZ, tudza, Spades, and OOZ662 (the bomb-group leader).
After rearming, we jettisonned our bombs, as we were to do a fighter sweep. We flew across the Channel to the English coast near p106 without seeing any enemies, so we turned south flying over water along the coast. Down near p105, we spotted enemy Spitfires down low, perhaps heading in to land after a mission, so in we went.
I blast a Spitfire IX that was trying for DrBone. A perfect drag by the good Dr. <S>!
I put some rounds into another Spit 9 down on the deck, with a high-angle deflection shot. He doesn't go down.
About this time, more Spitfires started showing up from on high, and it wasn't looking that good for us anymore. We kept tangling with them, but we were starting to get overwhelmed.
A few Spitfire V's lock onto me, and I race along the deck, WEP on and jinking. From left to right: IrishOne, DrBone, pervert, me, and Ditto.
My jinking works, and I'm able eventually to get away from the Spits on my tail. After they turned back, I went into a climb at the perphery of the fight and went back in.
I get jumped again by a Spitfire with some smash. Again, I race out, jinking, but this one gets a few rounds on me and blows off one of my elevators.
I went out over the Channel and got chased by another Spitfire with some altitude on me. I saw mosca1 several thousand yards to my left, so I called out and vectored left a little to see if I could get a clear. mosca1 and I started tangling with the Spitfire, and then 1-2 others showed up, but so did 1-2 other Luftwaffe fighters. A big <S> to mosca1 in this fight. I kept trying for the Spit, but I couldn't pull high g's with one elevator gone, and he generally didn't give me anything but high-angle deflection shots. I pinged him here and there, but I couldn't saddle up.
I get more rounds into this well-flown Spitfire IX as he tries to chase mosca1. mosca1 is unfortunately trailing oil and either fuel or radiator coolant. Redtail7 is on the Spit, too.
Shortly after the above picture, Redtail closed in very tight for a high-angle, close deflection shot, and the Spit pulled high g's and crashed into him. They both went down. Drat. With this fight over, I headed back toward home base to replane (as my elevator was gone). It took a long time to get back there and back to the coast. I brought a bomb, but once I was near the French coast, the call came in to jettison the bomb and gather with other fighters near a46 for defense against an anticipated push by the RAF. We flew around for quite a while without the RAF coming in, but then a group of high Spitfires showed up south of A46, and we engaged them. I did some passes here and there and then ended up chasing one particular Spitfire around.
I land some hits on a very evasive, well-flown Spitfire IX.
I stuck with that particular Spit for a long time. Eventually, a bunch more RAF fighters showed up from on high, and things weren't looking good for me and the couple of folks down on the deck trying for this guy. The RAF fighters dove into the fight.
I don't jink well enough for one of the incoming Spitfires, and he lands enough hits on my tail to take off an elevator. I get away with the rest of my parts, though.
I thought about leaving the fight entirely, missing an elevator (again), but it was late in the day, and it was looking like the RAF was starting to overwhelm our forces just west of a46. I climbed east and typed out the situation on the radio.
After some climbing, back in I go. Devil5O5 and CptA are in the area, too.
A large, swirling fight developed, and eventually was lower in altitude. More RAF fighters came in, and the LW forces started to dwindle. I make a lot of runs but didn't nail my angles. Officially, I blame my missing elevator (rather than my poor aim).
I work over a Typhoon, giving him a belly full of lead. But he doesn't go down -- or even lose any parts or spew fluids! This isn't the way English-made planes are supposed to hold up!
More RAF planes showed up, and I transitioned to the portion of the fight near the French coast on the deck.
I make a run through low Spitfire IX's. I've got a lot of speed on these planes, but one of them manages to land hits on my tail as I blow through, and off comes my vertical stabilizer. !@#$! Down I go. From left to right: xPINGx, Ditto, me, and KKEN.
I came back up from a71 and tried to WEP back to the fight, but the day of combat was done before I could get there.
I shot down four Spitfire IX's (so, ones I didn't finish off went to me, it seems) and destroyed six buildings. I was shot down once.
Overall, II/JG26 got 18 kills and destroyed 33 objects. Not bad. It seemed like we spent more of the time getting overwhelmed in this one, instead of us doing the overwhelming like last frame, but we did OK.
